Hebrew University Archeologists Discover Tablet Dating Back To Patriarchs
International Christian Embassy Jerusalem, 28 July 2010
A document written on two cuneiform tablets dating back to the time of the Biblical Patriarch Abraham, including a law code in a form and language like parts of the Code of Hammurabi, was found at Hazor National Park in the North during a Hebrew University summer excavation.
The code dates from the Middle Bronze Age in the 18th and 17th centuries BC, but it has not been determined where the document was written, said Prof. Wayne Horowitz of the HU Institute of Archeology.
The fragments were written in Akkadian cuneiform script and mention personal injury law among masters and slaves.
Cuneiform is the earliest known written system that first began as a pictographic writing method and in the Sumerian civilization of southern Iraq.
